Mars mission countdown begins - proud time for India

On November 5th (tuesday) 2013 at 2:38p.m. India's hopes will be going high. Until today our ambitious mission to Mars going ahead smoothly. "All is well. The countdown is progressing smoothly. Everything is fine," said Director S.Ramakrishnan of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvanathapuram to one of the leading newspaper 'The Hindu'.

Mars Orbiter Mission is India's first interplanetary mission to planet Mars with an orbiter craft designed to orbit Mars in an elliptical orbit. The mission is primarily technological mission considering the critical missions and stringent requirements on propulsion and other bus systems of spacecraft. Exploration of Mars features, morphology, mineralogy and Martian atmosphere by indigenous scientific instruments is also an important scientific objective for this mission.
