Robot Hospi - To do a nurse job - a great service to nurses and lab technicians


Panasonic Corporation have started selling their new autonomous robot 'hospi' (Hosupi) - 'hospital transport autonomous robot HOSPI'. This will be a fully automatic robot which is designed to transport samples and drugs so that lab technicians and nurses wont have to. 

In Japan based on the current population structure, the need of nursing services and management was becoming an utmost important issue. To maintain and improve the quality of health care, Panasonic have a done a great service with the development of 'hospi'. In a survey conducted by the medical and nursing Matsushita Memorial Hospital in (Osaka Moriguchi), the medical drug transport was becoming a major issue. Nurses and pharmacists complained that their majority of work was being constantly interrupted whenever drugs had to be delivered. Now with this invention, most of the issues can be solved.

The main benefit of hospi is its autonomous navigation capabilities. it doesn't require any laying of induction line trajectory. This in turn make it cheap too. Usually a map of the building is programmed in advance  which it uses to plan its route. Even if the route changes the robot has the capability to work flexibly, can even take elevators. It also has sensors that can help it to pass the obstacles even if it is a patient on a wheel chair. All these makes hospi a user friendly mate who can help us in field of hospitality and medical urgencies. 
Hospi is also provides with some great security features which includes 1) Prevent tampering and damage 2) avoid theft of drugs and samples 3) an automatically locking door on its storage container that opens with ID cards 4) the liquids are kept in much more stable position to limit foaming 5) also providing a smooth trip from start to finish.  

Hospi can carry upto 20 kg (44lb) and moves at a maximum speed of 1metre per second (2.2mph). It can work up to seven hours before needing to be recharged, which take about 8 hours, so a team of robots on rotation can work 24 hours a day.
